The Abhorsen Trilogy

|
I first read Sabriel when I was in primary school and loved it then (age 10 or 11) and these cope surprisingly well with a re-read in adulthood. I proceeded to complete the series and the short follow up tale which could have been expanded on to be a complete book or a full trilogy further exploring the relationship of the characters. The premise of the books - good necromancers, or "abhorsens" - is a concept I haven't come across elsewhere and the tools of their trade and the afterlife are very good concepts as well. The feline companion is another great element of these stories and I recommend these as a lighter but very enjoyable read.

Sabriel

Lirael

Abhorsen

This is a light add-on proceeding directly after the initial story. It is a cute little extra that you could probably get through in one or two sittings, but it is short. The other stories included in this book didn't really interest me.
