The concept for "magic" in this world is unique and for the most part the main characters are trying to overthrow the political power and then struggle to find balance both in themselves and the world around them. There are several twists that attempt to leave you guessing but there are big clues along the way and you can spot what will happen if you're paying attention.
It's a solid series. Give it a try.

The Alloy of Law is an add on to this series. It takes place in the distant future several generations after the end of the trilogy. It is an interesting concept however I felt it could have been fleshed out better with potential to be its own trilogy. The concepts of "magic" in this book were in some ways stronger than the concepts for the trilogy. In summary, I enjoyed it however the ending was sudden and I felt like there was parts of the story left untold.
